Description

Origins:

The party's origins are humble. In the 1980s, a group of backpackers gathered on Haad Rin Nok beach to celebrate a full moon with a bonfire and drinks. Word spread, and the celebration gradually grew into a massive party attracting thousands.

At Kohl's Phangan, the night madness may be a monthly tradition, but due to the way it is observed, it seems to occur only rarely. Over the years, the party grew in popularity, attracting more travelers and evolving into the massive monthly event known today. The celebration of the full moon festival in Thailand starts three nights prior to the actual event. The initial two days are absolute chaos, and then begins the craziest night of the month.

Location of the full moon party

The scene of this event is Haad Rin Beach in Koh Phangan, one of the best places to visit for a honeymoon in Thailand. With DJs playing electronic music throughout the night from sunset until dawn breaks early in the morning, fire-skipping ropes, and alcohol buckets, the place attracts partygoers from all around the world. And it's insane. The full moon festival in Thailand has become one of the most prestigious nightclub beach locations in the world.

Cactus Bar, Sunrise Beach Club, Drop-In Bar, Zoom Bar, and The Rock are a few of the high-end places to hang out with strangers and friends.

How do I get to Thailand's full moon party?
By air: The Koh Samui airport is the closest one to the island, and it provides frequent flights from Pattaya, Bangkok, and Phuket. From Koh Samui, a ferry can take you to the island.

By train: You can also take a train from Hualamphong station in Bangkok to Surat Thani, from where you'll quickly get a ferry to the island.

By water: Bangkok, Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Tao, and Chumphon are just a few of the major Thai cities from which you can board a catamaran to travel to Ko Pha Ngan. The catamarans also have pick-up facilities from the hotel.

What is the best time to visit Thailand for the full moon party?

The Koh Samui full moon party is packed with visitors during Thailand's busy season between November and April. The party has an entry fee of THB 100. Usually the party kicks off right after the sun sets on the horizon around 6 - 7 PM and lasts until the end of the night. However, the exact starting time may vary depending on the event's location.
